Only having started in 2009,the Galway men’s lacrosse team has come a long way in terms of experience and gaining players. We have come 4th out of 5 teams in the ILL in our first 2 seasons,beating a belfast/trinity team narrowly on both occasions,but are still growing as a club.Last season we came 3rd in the first ever Newtownards Cup(an 8-a-side tournament) almost making the final only to lose to Dublin Bay Prawns in OT.
We are recruiting all levels of players,and as a team recruiting mainly from college players we get a wide variety of skill levels.We get players from the states with a lot of experiece who usually only stay for a semester or two,and new players from Ireland who have only heard of the sport or seen it in movies.We are open to beginners all the way up to international players,and as the sport is still very much developing in Ireland there is a great diversity in the skill level of players all over.
The Irish Lacrosse League is run every year with teams from Dublin,Belfast,Cork and Galway. All the teams get together once a month and we play 2/3 games each on a Saturday.We usually all arrive up on the Friday,go out with all the other guys,play on Saturday,go out again,and everyone goes home on Sunday.Occasionally we may run a box lacrosse clinic on the sunday but that depends on numbers.
