SWBT Match Report: Grehan's overtime winner sinks England on a landmark night

England 9 Ireland 10 (after overtime) European Women's Box Lacrosse Championship, Prague, 29 June 2026

Ireland's senior women produced the result of their tournament so far, beating England 10-9 in overtime. Hillary Grehan scored four goals, the last of them the winner at 61:00, and did it on the same night the senior men also beat England. Two Irish teams, two overtime wins, one evening.

Ireland struck first through Grehan on the power play, and after England worked their way in front at 2-1, Ireland answered with a burst that changed the game. Grehan, Amy Bolton and Gillian Smith scored in barely thirty seconds to lead 4-2, and by the time Bridget Hamlin finished at 27:52 Ireland were 6-3 clear.

England came back hard. They scored four in a row to lead 7-6 in the third quarter, and from there the game went blow for blow. Reese Boylan levelled it on the power play, Smith tied it again at 8-8, and Haley Price put Ireland 9-8 in front. When Lauren Lewis tied it at 9-9 with just over a minute left, overtime looked certain. It came, and Ireland took it. Grehan finished the night's work at 61:00 to win it.

Kiera Roberts was the reason Ireland were still standing. She made 37 saves at 80 percent as England poured 85 shots at her goal to Ireland's 69. Grehan's four goals led the attack, and Smith added two goals and three assists.

England had the shots and the territory. Ireland had the goaltender and the finish. On a night when both Irish box teams beat England, the women had matched the men stride for stride.
