Ireland finished the round robin the way a side heading for the knockout stage wants to, with a controlled 12-6 win over Czechia. Hillary Grehan scored four times, and Kiera Roberts turned in another commanding display in goal.
Czechia opened the scoring and led 1-0, then edged 2-1 in front early, but that was as good as it got for them. Ireland scored seven goals in a row to take control. Grehan led the charge, Issy Keane added two, and Ireland led 8-2. The margin never came under threat again.
Roberts was the platform. She made 40 saves at 87 percent, frustrating a Czech side that kept coming and outshot Ireland across the second half. At the other end Ireland were clinical, converting 12 of their 69 shots while Czechia managed six from 65. Bridget Hamlin controlled the face-off dot with nine wins.
The win left Ireland third in the round-robin standings with three wins and two losses, enough to carry them into the semi-finals. Their earlier overtime win over England and this closing performance had turned an opening defeat to Germany into a knockout-stage place.
Waiting in the semi-final were Israel, the only side to come through the round robin unbeaten. Ireland had found form at the right time. They would need all of it.
